Welcome... At Paw To Heart we offer...

Support groups - Monthly support groups in a safe and non-threatening atmosphere, free of charge to the community since 1992. Monthly meetings are held at The Long Island Veterinary Specialists Center, www.livs.org, 163 South Service Road, Plainview, NY, at 8 PM in *The Conference Room. Additional meetings are held at Bideawee Home for Animals, 3300 Beltagh Avenue, Wantagh, NY, from 10am until Noon on alternate Saturdays.
Groups are open to anyone dealing with the loss of an animal companion through death or separation. We also address euthanasia, terminal illness and quality of life issues, and universal grief. Groups are 'supportive' in nature and not to be confused with 'traditional therapy.' We ask that all prospective members call prior to attending. Telephone and E-mail counseling is available in the interim.

Education - An informative packet on animal loss can be obtained upon request. Related literature is distributed at each support group meeting, and a video on the topic is often shown. With the permission of members, arrangements can sometimes be made to have students sit in on group sessions.

Lectures and Workshops - Qualified speakers are available to your organization or facility. We have been invited to speak at schools, colleges, animal advocacy groups, library and community programs, and we conduct a yearly workshop for Veterinary Science Students at Nassau Tech. Paw to Heart has been featured on News 12 LongIsland, in Petlife Magazine, The Long Island Voice, and in The Long Island Life section of Newsday.
Universal Grief - We at Paw To Heart believe that being able to deeply mourn our animal companions gives us the capacity to grieve the loss, suffering and exploitation of 'all' animals. Just as our dear animal family members feel fear and pain, so do those unseen animals who suffer and die on factory and fur farms, in research labs, puppy mills, in pounds and overcrowded shelters, and on the streets each day. The abused, the neglected, the hunted, the trapped and skinned, are all deserving of our tears.

We are therefore acknowledging and discussing this concept in our lectures, workshops and support groups.

Paw to Heart - Was inspired by and is dedicated to the loving memory of Sheba, Shasta and Samson.
